We have a track-record of creating excellent work with older people including productions toured to lunch/social clubs and sheltered housing venues, and inter-generational participatory projects.
Creative Connections aims to enable older and younger residents to get to know each other through participatory arts projects. We have a track-record of creating excellent work with the over 50s, including productions toured to lunch/social clubs and sheltered housing venues, and intergenerational participatory projects. We have also created a number of films.
In April 2020 we launched Hackney Social Radio, a weekly FM radio programme which aimed to address digital isolation and provide a sense of connection and community during the pandemic. Our Production Club project involved older people in creating and broadcasting the shows.
Theatre Exchange involves weekly workshops for over 50s to create new material through improvisation and script development. Previous shows have toured to lunch and social clubs and sheltered accomodation in Hackney, as well as being broadcast via Hackney Social Radio.
Current programme: 10th January - 21st March 2022
We are currently running weekly online workshops every Monday from 5.30 - 7.15pm via Zoom. Workshops will explore puppetry, shadow work, character and masks - with sessions led by visiting professional artists - to create Queen Florence and the Seven Seagulls, an adaptation of a fairytale, where Snow White is the villain.
These sessions are completely free and open to all levels and abilities. If you’re interested in joining the group, contact Lucie Regan via firstname.lastname@example.org or Jo Carter via 0207 923 8362.
Hackney Social Audio
Production Club is an online project for over 50s, introducing participants to the basics of interviewing, editing, using sound effects and music. The Production Club members were central to creating Hackney Social Radio programmes, helping to identify ideas for features and even recording their own. Although HSR is not currently airing, our Production Club are continuing to meet and working on recording unusual conversations between different members of the community, including intergenerational work.
