Weekly drama workshops for over 60s

Our 'youth theatre' for over 60s, creating excellent work with older people. The companies productions have toured lunch & social clubs as well sheltered housing venues.

We are currently running weekly in-person workshops every Monday from 4:30-6:15pm at Immediate Theatre's Studio Space. Workshops explore improvisation, performing practices and games to produce work with potential to perform.

We produce an annual production in November/December touring to lunch and social clubs, sheltered accommodation and where possible a theatre venue for family and friends.

In March 2026 the group performed an exert from their recent show Reclaim the Street at Immediate Theatre’s youth theatre Social Action event.

In May 2026 the group worked with local historian Sue Doe to create a dramatized walking tour of Hackney Downs as part of the Hackney History Festival, raising funds for our winter show.

The group also organise visits to cultural events and enable Creative Connections to reach more people by volunteering on community projects.

“I learned a lot and my self-confidence grew tremendously. And I had great fun.  I've always liked going to plays and to see acting in the cinema and so on. And now I can actually take part, which is great.”

Participant, aged 87

When asked; “How attending the show today make you feel?” 98% of audiences replied ‘happy’

or ‘uplifted.

“Ageing isn't as scary as I thought. I can actually join group like Immediate Theatre to keep active as or when/if I make it :)”

Metro Article 2023

‘The best role I ever had was Cinderella at the age of 74 [in the 2018 panto Cindy Rella] which was a great thrill. That was a fun thing to do, at St Joseph’s hospice, somebody said to me, who happened to be in the toilets as well after the show, “Did you know that’s the first pantomime I was able to see because I couldn’t get out?” I’ll remember that forever.’ - Janet Evans
