Alaine's Story

School does not teach you this - experience beyond the classroom

At Immediate Theatre, Alaine found something she hadn’t experienced in school; a space where young people could speak freely, explore ideas, and be taken seriously. Through each rehearsal and performance, she learned to express her own story  through her voice, her perspective, her imagination. She felt seen and she felt encouraged to be exactly who she was becoming.

Before joining, Alaine wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life, basketball filled her spare time, but her future felt uncertain. Through playing characters, collaborating with castmates, and understanding emotions beyond her own, she discovered not only empathy but ambition. Immediate Theatre didn’t just give her confidence; it gave her direction. Now studying performing arts in college, she dreams of becoming an actor. The challenges she faces there feel manageable because of the resilience and respect she learned on stage.

More than anything, Alaine found belonging. She describes the group as a family, a community that shaped her behaviour, helped her grow kinder, and kept her engaged in something meaningful when she might otherwise have been drifting. Being part of Immediate Theatre has made her not just a better performer, but a healthier, more grounded person within her community.
