#ChristmasChallenge19: Save the Date!
There’s just ONE WEEK to go until we take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge – a nationwide campaign that allows us to DOUBLE all donations made between midday 3rd December and midday 10th December.
We’re asking for your support to help us raise £6,800 for our Speech Bubbles project, which works with children aged 5-7 with Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN).
What is Speech Bubbles?
Speech Bubbles is an evidence-based programme ran every year by Immediate Theatre in conjunction with London Bubble. The project uses a drama approach and works with schools to help children with SLCN to develop their confidence and communication skills through storytelling in a fun, collaborative and playful way.
Why support the project?
Evidence collected by the Communication Trust suggests that, in some areas, as many as 50% of children are starting school with delayed communication skills. Teachers report that as well as teaching reading and writing, they increasingly have to teach children to speak and play.
In 2017-18, Immediate Theatre delivered the project in one school:
- 75% improved their speaking and listening skills
- 85% showed improved behaviour and conduct
- 85% showed an overall improvement in lessons
- 100% were identified as not meeting the National Standards in reading or writing at the beginning of the year – 80% had reached this standard by the end.
What will your donation fund?
Your donation will help us to facilitate the project in 3 schools, delivering at least 20 workshops in each school, and provide training for Learning Assistants within the schools. With one donation, you can make double the difference to children with SLCN.
If you donate via the Big Give page between midday 3rd December and midday 10th December, every pound donated will be matched by our Pledge Funds and Champion Funds kindly provided by The Childhood Trust.
