ESTATE BASED YOUTH THEATRES
Immediate Theatre has been providing high quality youth theatres on estates in Hackney for 11 years engaging young people who do not traditionally have access to arts opportunities.
Working in partnership, we actively involve local arts professionals, organisations and volunteers to create new performance work, help young people develop drama skills, create new audiences and strengthen the local arts infrastructure.
Our Estate Based Youth Theatres create a platform so that the voices of young people can be heard. This also helps to improve relationships between the young people and the wider community.
Weekly workshops run from October to July. In the summer holidays participants take part in an intensive programme where they have the opportunity to create a new play and perform it to their peers, members of the community and local decision makers.
At present, we have Estate Based Youth Theatres in the following areas:
- Clapton Common and Woodbury Down
(in partnership with Elevate) - Morningside, New Kingshold, and Gascoyne 2
(in partnership with Sanctuary Housing Association)
Our youth theatres are kindly supported by Children in Need, Jack Petchy and London Borough of Hackney.
