Culture is our weapon

Afro Reggae is a cultural group that was established in the Favela (shantytown) of Vigario Geral in 1993. They work within the most at risk communities in Rio de Janeiro and are dedicated to transforming the lives of young people through engagement in the arts, providing pathways into employment and hope for a better future for their communities.

In 2006, People's Palace Productions [PPP] at University of London piloted the Afro-Reggae method across east London in "mini-projects", in partnership with the Barbican Centre and Amnesty International.

Following a successful "mini- project" in Shoreditch, Immediate Theatre are continuing this inspiring programme using Brazilian arts and mediation techniques to engage young people. Weekly sessions take place at Hoxton Hall and Blue Hut.

In partnership with the AfroReggae UK Partnership, Shoreditch Trust and Taru.
