Well London

Details

  • 24th – 29th May 2009

As part of Well London we ran a week of intergenerational dance and drama activities on the Woodberry Down Estate in Hackney, in partnership with East London Dance, culminating in an all day creative and active extravaganza.

Well London is an exciting, 3-year project that works with local people to transform their health.

The final day of our Well London project began with a Samba procession around the Woodberry Down Estate led by Bigga Blocco AfroReggae band. This was followed by free workshops at the Robin Redmond Resource Centre with The Turkish I nternational Dance Centre, East London Dance, On the Pulse, Immediate Theatre, Capoeira Uniao and Blema Sisters West African drumming and dance.

The day ended with performances by our Woodberry Down Youth Theatre who took to the stage with some street theatre and the Blema Sisters with their exuberant African dancing.

Workshops were very well attended by both the young and “young at heart” with up to sixty people being involved in some of the dance classes.
