Enriching the curriculum for Alternative Education Providers

Working with excluded young people who are not currently in mainstream education, we enable participants to understand the feelings and behaviours which may have lead to their exclusion and help them overcome these barriers.

Using drama, participants can explore the emotional aspects of their problems and “rehearse” alternative behaviours. Young people are able to identify and articulate feelings and emotions, learn to manage difficult situations and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of people.

Through the performing arts we give a voice to young people who might find it difficult to express themselves or be heard in other ways.

“Ofsted were very impressed with the workshop when they visted impromptu. Emotional intelligence through drama is definitely something we want to continue offering our learners” Teacher, New Vision PRU, Hackney Learning Trust

We currently work in partnership with the Learning Trust across Hackney to deliver 6- week projects in a variety of settings, from Hackney City Farm to an ESOL group at Hackney Community College. We seek to be responsive to our learners and tailor-make projects to best suit their needs.  When we worked with young people at Dalston Youth Project they told us they wanted to make a film so we ensured that this would be the focus of their project. We were able to watch the young people grow in confidence and self esteem whilst learning important skills such as teamwork.

At Lifelines the young people had the opportunity to share the performance they had created at their graduation ceremony, demonstrating to a wider audience the journey they had been on over the year we were with them. This was a very inspiring experience for everyone involved.
