Interactions

Details

Interactions is an innovative and highly successful arts programme that provides opportunities for excluded and hard-to-reach young people, aged 13 - 19, to develop life skills through the arts and signposts them to destinations in education, employment and training.

Interactions is made up of three project strands:

Using creative strategies our Interactions programme promotes personal and social skills that underpin effective learning, positive behaviour, and emotional health and wellbeing. We develop: self awareness, emotional intelligence, motivation, empathy and social skills.

Interactions supports Social Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL); the National healthy Schools Programme; the Every Child Matters agenda; and the 14-19 Education and Skills white paper.

The work of interactions impacts on both young people and the community.

The project helps young people to:

  • Improve self confidence, self belief and self expression
  • Develop practical and creative skills
  • Improve social and personal skills
  • Broaded their perspectives by exploring issues pertinent to their lives
  • Access ongoing pastoral support
  • Explore pathways into further training and work opportunities in the arts
  • Engage in other aspects of learning and training.

Since 2000, Interactions has worked with 700 young people on an intensive basis.

70% of young people engaged go onto positive destinations in education, employment or training.

"What impresses me about Interactions is that Immediate Theatre seem to channel the young people's creative energy not just for what we might think of as selfish outcomes but to increase their awareness of their local community and the issues that effect them and their peers."
