Free-dom Kutz Condom Distribution Scheme
Details
Working in barbershops across Hackney to reduce the risk of teenage pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
Hackney has one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in London and there has been a dramatic rise in the rates of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) amongst young people across the borough.
The Hackney Condom Distribution Scheme (CDS) has been running since 2005 and is coordinated by Brook London, operating under the Hackney & City Teaching Primary Care Trust.
As the Condom Distribution Scheme expands, we are working in partnership with Brook London to look for new and innovative ways of reaching groups of young people who may not access other services. We have been funded by the Hackney and City Teaching Primary Care Trust to run a distribution scheme in Barbers Shops.
The aim of Free-Dom Kutz is to contribute to the overall aims of the Free-Dom scheme of reducing teenage pregnancy and the prevalence of Sexually Transmitted Infections including HIV.
By working in barbershops across Hackney it is possible for young men to access to free condoms in places where they already go at a time that is convenient to them.
For all Easy Access Points (EAP's) in Hackney check out the ‘Where can I get condoms’ page on the Free-Dom website for all of the locations.
The service is confidential. Once a young person has met one of our trained advisors they’ll be given a card so that they can pick up condoms every week, wherever they see the ‘FREE-DOM’ logo.
