Discover Young Hackney: Dream Makers
Details
- 15th – 19th February 2010
Dream Makers was our fantastic project for Discover Young Hackney 2010, working with young people aged 11 - 19 from across the borough.
In the February half-term, young people in Hackney were invited to join our very own scrap yard challenge: create a theatre set and musical score for a performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ – using only scrap and recycled materials.
'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies where the boundaries between reality and imagination merge as characters are caught in a web of magic and enchantment.
The play was adapted and performed by members of our Estate Based Youth Theatres. Our 'Dream Makers' worked with 2009 Evening Standard Theatre Award winner Mamoru Iriguchi (Best Design, Mincemeat) and Hoxton Hall graffiti artists to bring the world of the enchanted forest to life. At the end of the week the show was performed to an audience of participants’ family and friends.
See the gallery above for pictures of the final performance.
