Building Bridges

Building Bridges was a series of intergenerational projects created to improve relationships between older people and young people in Hackney.
We worked with young people on the Woodberry Down estate in North Hackney to explore the issues about their experience of living on the estate and their understanding of what it might be like to be an older person living there. We then took these stories and ideas to create a piece of theatre which the young people performed to their older neighbours.
We repeated this work with groups living on Wrens Park estate.
The projects were a huge success and many of the participants and audience members went on a huge journey.
The projects helped to improve access to quality arts activities for residents by making activities available to them on their estates and promoted community cohesion by providing an opportunity for people of different ages to come together and share their ideas to the wider community.
