Steve Doke
Marketing and Development Officer
Bio
Originally from Seattle, Steve got his first taste of theatre at age 14 as the hastily cast replacement "Second Policeman" with two lines in "Pippi Longstocking". From there he appeared in teen theatre workshops and went on to study Communication Arts and Theatre at university. After uni, Steve found that the life of a struggling actor in the US Pacific Northwest required taking on multiple job fields: machinist, food bank publicist, radio disc jockey/newscaster, craft shop customer service rep and Santa Claus, to name a few. However, an opening for an Artistic Director at an English language theatre in Germany gave Steve the chance to immerse himself in directing, acting, teching, workshop leading, arts marketing and furthering his acting training.
When his wife DeeDee was offered a job in the UK, the Dokes pulled up stakes and moved to East Anglia where he directed, performed and designed marketing campaigns for theatre groups, toured shows on the AMDRAM festival circuit, became a film extra and appeared in a BBC murder mystery radio production. As marketing director for leisure, concert and special events organizations he married his theatrical flair with convention-defying internal communications, PR, market research and commercial sponsorship. In early 2010 Steve decided against accepting a transfer to a marketing director position in Denver Colorado, opting instead for the fresh challenges of arts marketing with Immediate Theatre in London.
