ACTING ON HEALTH
Immediate Theatre has developed a strong portfolio of work using drama to tackle issues around health and well-being. Our work covers a range of topics from sex and relationship education for young people, to shows looking at falls in the home for older people and awareness raising about mental wellbeing
Our experience has shown that theatre provides an emotional access to difficult subject matter and can enable audiences and participants to talk openly about the issue and explore real strategies for change in a safe environment.
We have recently developed several peer-education projects, where young people are trained to deliver drama workshops or performances on particular issues to other young people. This method of delivery has proved to be very successful and we are continuing to develop work in this area.
Our current tour of The Gingerbread House is a performance project for primary school pupils in years 4, 5, or 6 looking at childhood obesity. This new production will explore the psychological challenges facing children and their families trying to live a healthy lifestyle and forms part of a wider agenda in East London about tackling childhood obesity.
