New Peer-Education Project to Tackle Youth Crime

This month we received the exciting news that our tender to Team Hackney to run a new peer-education project to tackle youth crime has been successful.

Our ‘Choice’ programme will work in partnership with Fairbridge to train and support 8 young peer-facilitators. Each trainee peer-facilitator will receive personal and social development training through Fairbridge’s access course, skills in facilitation and drama, and the opportunity to design a creative toolkit for exploring issues around youth crime, gang culture and knife and gun crime. Together with Fairbridge, we will work to ensure each peer facilitator leaves the programme on a positive career path.

The 'Choice' programme will also extend to our Estate Based Youth Theatres where young people will explore issues around youth crime through drama.

'Choice' will contribute to meeting Hackney’s Local Area Agreement priority to reduce crime and gang culture. It will also compliment existing work in the borough by providing opportunities for personal and social development to young offenders and those at risk of offending.
